Domestic Slavery

Domestic slavery affects those who work within the home environment as opposed to a commercial setting. Estimates suggest that there are at least 64.5 million domestic workers worldwide, and over 15% of them are children. Whilst many employers respect domestic workers, sadly others force them to work long hours, lock them in homes, and show only violence.

The very nature of the domestic setting can increase the risk of a workers’ vulnerability to slavery and abuse, so we are working towards changing attitudes towards domestic workers, asking governments to introduce legal protections and targeting unscrupulous recruitment agencies.
