Argentina

Susana is the mother of Marita Veron who disappeared on April 3 2002.  Marita is believed to have been kidnapped by a powerful human trafficking network.  Trimarco has spent years searching for her daughter, who is still missing.  In December 2013 ten people were convicted of the kidnapping and sexual exploitation of Marita Veron. Susan Trimarco is the founder of the Maria de los Angeles Foundation which rescues victims of trafficking. Her high profile campaigns have changed the law.

    Base Rai has written a book about his life story.  He lived on the streets in Kathmandu, carried out various forms of labour and suffered various forms of exploitation.  Rescued by an organisation called “Child Workers in Nepal” he eventually moved to India and joined up with the organisation Bachpan Bachao Andolan

    Shamere met a trafficker while trying to find a way to pay for college.  He promised her she could make money dancing.  Instead he forced her into sex slavery.  Eventually she and her pimp were arrested and both were charged.  Today, empowered by her faith, she works as program assistant for Shared Hope International.  She is a member of the DC Human Trafficking Task Force.

    Ima was trafficked from Indonesia into domestic slavery in Los Angeles.  After 3 years she escaped. Ima now works as a Survivor Organiser for the Coalition to Abolish Slavery and Trafficking in Los Angeles.  She was recently recognised by Obama as a hero.

    Lloyd survived abuse and exploitation in England.  She moved to America.  She set up Girls Education and Mentoring Service in New York and works with vulnerable children to make a real difference in their lives.  She advocates and campaigns on behalf of minors who have been forced into prostitution.
